NISSAN X-TRAIL TO BE BUILT AT SAINT-PETERSBURG

NISSAN X-TRAIL TO BE BUILT AT SAINT-PETERSBURG

St. Petersburg, Russia (June 2, 2009) - Nissan  announces  today that its X-TRAIL model will be the second locally assembled vehicle at its new plant in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. The X-TRAIL will join the Teana in being manufactured for the Russian market when production begins in autumn 2009.

Sales of the compact SUV have exceeded 69,000 over two generations since it was first introduced in 2001, making Russia one of its biggest markets. Local manufacture is in line with Nissan’s philosophy of building its cars as close as possible to its key markets, giving better flexibility to respond to customer needs.

Locally built Nissan X-TRAILs will be available with two engines — 2.0-litre, petrol 104 kW (141 hp) and 2.5-litre 124 kW (169 hp). Both engines are fitted with either six speed manual transmission or Continuously Variable Transmissions (CVT) for 2.0-litre engine and M-CVT (with manual mode) for the 2.5-litre engine.

X-TRAIL has fully independent front strut-type suspension with combined coil-over-strut assemblies and a fully independent multi-link rear suspension. All   X-TRAILs are equipped with Nissan’s ALL MODE 4x4-i intelligent all-wheel drive system for improved safety and on-road comfort without compromising off-road ability. This system also incorporates Uphill Start Support (USS) and Downhill Drive Support (DDS).

Every model in the X-TRAIL range has multimedia system that incorporates an in-dash six disc CD player with six speakers, fully integrated Bluetooth® mobile phone connectivity. The X-TRAIL interior has a large trunk area for luggage and accessories.

Since its launch in Russia, the X-TRAIL has received a number of honorary awards in its segment. These accolades include “Golden Klaxon-2001” in the SUV-segment from the federal newspaper “Klaxon”. Moreover X-TRAIL was named “Best Auto of the Year” in 2003 and 2005 (award of the automotive magazine “Autopanorama”). In 2009 X-TRAIL received second prize of the Brand of the Year/EFFIE Award (Auto-Moto nomination).

Prices on the locally built Nissan X-TRAIL will be announced before the start of sales.
